SFedU took part in the meeting of the Russian-Cuban Working Group on Cooperation in Higher Education

On March 12, a meeting of the Russian-Cuban Working Group on Cooperation in Higher Education was held at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

The meeting was attended by Konstantin Mogilevsky, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Reinaldo Velasquez Saldivar, Deputy Minister of Higher Education of the Republic of Cuba, as well as representatives of the Southern Federal University, RUDN in the name of  Patrice Lumumba, the Pushkin State Institute of the Russian Language, the Moscow State Linguistic University, the Russian State University for the Humanities RANEPA under the President of the Russian Federation and the Russian State Social University.

During the meeting, the active work of the Southern Federal University with Cuban colleagues was noted.

Natalia Karpovskaya, Director of the International Institute of Interdisciplinary Education and Ibero-American Studies, spoke at the event on behalf of the Southern Federal University, who presented proposals from the Southern Federal University on the main areas of cooperation with universities in Cuba.

Among the main vectors of the university's cooperation with Cuban partners, a special place is given to the creation of a Branch and the opening of the Preparatory Faculty of the SFedU in the Republic of Cuba. The project is in the final stage: currently, amendments to the university's charter are being prepared for referral to the Ministry of Education and Science.

The Cuban side also supported the project developed by the Southern Federal University as part of the fulfillment of the state task, "A comprehensive internship program for Cuban students in the territory of the Russian Federation "Internship in Russia is a step towards success." A new cycle of internships, according to the instructions of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, will be implemented under the coordination of the SFedU in 2024. At the meeting of the Working Group, it was proposed to expand the membership of both Cuban and Russian partner universities of the project, which was supported by all participants of the meeting.

The issue of creating research collaborations was separately touched upon: at the Jose Antonio Echeverria University of Technology (CUJAE) and at the Southern Federal University, it is planned to open a mirror Laboratory for artificial intelligence and technical sciences, whose activities cover the fields of cybersecurity, energy and biotechnology; an international research group on the conservation and reproduction of plant and soil biodiversity is in the process of formation resources with the participation of the SFedU Botanical Garden and the National Botanical Garden of the University of Havana, etc.

The agreements on specific areas of cooperation reached with Cuban universities at the sites of the International Congress on Higher Education "University 2024" (05.02–09.02.2024, Havana, Cuba), as well as projects related to the expansion and development of student exchange programs, the possibility of internships and internships for undergraduates of SFedU specializing in the field of Spanish were mentioned and teaching Russian as a foreign language.
